Product Design Internship | Fall 2023
A core function of Blossom Social is social portfolio browsing and portfolio management. Users can find other's investment portfolios on our platform and see what they are investing in. Additionally, users can also manage and track their own investments, and share their investments with the community.
Many users come just for this functionality, so I took extreme care when redesigning it.
Blossom is a top 50 financial social app for Canadian investors that enables users to follow each other's portfolios and trades and discover new investment ideas in a community of over 80,000 investors.
There were over 50 requests from our users to add functionality for linking more one investment account type (🇨🇦 TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, 🇺🇸 Roth IRA, Individual IRA) to their Blossom portfolio so they can track their investments all in the same place.
Our users loved the launch of this feature, with 2x the users starting their PRO trial the week of the release (this feature was limited to our PRO subscribers).
In addition to these metrics, our users were super stoked about the update, and many stated that they plan to use Blossom more as an investment management tool.
Because of time constraints and capacity, I was not able to test the feature with real users, which would greatly help in identifying edge cases. However, we were able to catch most cases with the help of our CTO and if there were missed cases, we were able to add hotfixes.
I made the mistake of presenting multiple designs without explaining my top choice and leaving it open for others to decide. This left my team (non-designers) unsure of my design decisions and how to move forward. Instead, I started highlighting my preferred choice, and rationale on why.
Please hang tight! Currently compiling all of the research, ideation processes, and writing up the case study! If you want to learn more in the meantime, please reach out!
